He spoke no English, nor did his adult son who couldn't drive a car... The father passed away and one day the son's sister came running over to call the police because her brother was attacking their mother. The police arrived after the crisis passed to find the son mowing the fields. As officers approached him to discuss the attack he chased them around the field trying to hit them with the mowing blade. Finally he was arrested and taken off. The picture however, also recalls the heavy furniture with dusky mirrors in the nursery at the far end of our camp which my brother and I used as teenagers. Private Collection. The Shingle Shanty is a major stream that drains ponds to the north...and to the east and west as well. It is...a tea brown river with a lot of tannin in it. This boulder in the later afternoon light looked mysterious coming out of the depths of the water. Collection of The Taft School. When I was growing up, the bustling activity of the station area centered not only around the trains, but around the store which sold soda, candy and canned goods. Later, when my aunt and uncle took it over, sporting goods were added. Of all the rooms in my camp this one has always held a special mystery for me, and it doesn't even have a view of the lake. Illustrious guides from Brandreth history sat around this table; men like Reuben Cary, Kurt Hall, Raymond Sabattis. The stairs that lead up from the door are marked by the caulks of lumberman's boots.
